Incorporating ResponsivTM in Your Product Design
At the heart of a Responsiv capable design is a microprocessor with one analog input, and one to several PWM (pulse width modulated) digital outputs. The analog input must be connected to switched power via a suitable scaling circuit. Firmware will monitor the input, and decode commands encoded by brief power interruptions, whether generated by operation of a standard dimmer switch, manually, or by an electronic digital remote. In response to these commands, firmware will produce appropriate PWM signals at the outputs.
In most designs, the digital outputs will activate switching devices, such as field effect transistors, which in turn modulate drive current for an LED lighting channel. A simple dimmer function for a single color requires only one channel. More channels are required for multi-color applications, or multi-position spatial animations.

Microprocessor SupportWe recommend operating our microprocessors at 5 volts nominal supply. A closely mounted 10 uF decoupling capacitor is recommended. The processor supply voltage doubles as a reference for the analog input, so determines the necessary input scaling ratio. The power on voltage should be between 35% and 80% of full scale, and the power off voltage less than 10%.
Because commands are in the form of brief power interruptions, backup power is required for approximately 3 seconds of continued microprocessor operation at 10 mA max. after primary power is interrupted. If power remains off, firmware will save status in nonvolatile memory, and restore its operating state when primary power returns. |
Pre-programmed MicroprocessorsWe can supply microprocessor components pre-programmed with off-the-shelf, proven firmware to meet your product's functional requirements. If your design follows the guidelines we provide, it should be a "plug and play" experience that puts you on a fast track to market.
Design Support ServicesPlease include us in discussion of your product specification. It is possible your requirements may prompt us to develop a new generation of software. We want you to be successful with Responsiv LED control! To that end, we will do our best to support your designers with expertise that is helpful and, well, Responsiv.
